WHAT CAN I DO?
Bullying
and harassment can be an overwhelming topic. If you've
been watching the news recently you've heard reports a rash
of students who have committed suicide because of bullying and
harassment, and these tragic stories make the subject even
more confusing. Here are some simple steps that you
can take to help make your community safer. These
steps may not seem like much, but remember big change always
starts with small steps.
Raise Your Own Awareness
Bullying and harassment behaviors are often misunderstood. Try to
educate yourself about the issue.

Help to Raise Awareness in Your
Community
Once you feel that you have enough information, start talking to your
family, friends, neighbors about the issue. Talk to the
administrators and teachers at your children's school, and make sure
that the PTA at your children's school is addressing the issue.
Invite experts to speak about the issue at PTA meetings, your church, or
other organizations. Teach your children to recognize bullying and
harassment behavior in all of its forms.
Encourage Your Children to Be Allies
One of the most effective ways to stop bullying and harassment behavior
and prevent it in the future is to work to change bystander behavior
into ally behavior. Encourage your children to intervene in acts
of bullying and harassment that they witness. If they don't feel
comfortable intervening directly teach them to get help from a teacher
or another adult.

Support Organizations that Work to
Create Safer Communities
In these challenging economic times, many schools districts don't
have the resources to develop and maintain comprehensive bullying and
harassment prevention programs. By supporting organizations like
the PVPI, your tax-deductible donation will help to ensure that these
vital programs are available. To support the
